{"id":9374,"date":"2014-12-17T16:29:59","date_gmt":"2014-12-17T16:29:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spacestudiosmanchester.co.uk\/?p=9374"},"modified":"2017-05-19T14:52:32","modified_gmt":"2017-05-19T14:52:32","slug":"public-service-broadcasters-gravitate-to-space","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spacestudiosmanchester.co.uk\/public-service-broadcasters-gravitate-to-space\/","title":{"rendered":"Public Service Broadcasters gravitate to Space"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>BBC, ITV and Channel 4 now all resident at Space Studios Manchester with host of forthcoming dramas for 2015<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Space Studios Manchester, the UK\u2019s newest, independent production facility in West Gorton in Manchester, is pleased to report that all three of UK\u2019s major drama commissioning, public service broadcasters have now all taken up residence at the site, simultaneously making use of the stages and support zones.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/mediacentre\/latestnews\/2013\/cbbc-dramas\" target=\"_blank\">BBC\u2019s &#8216;Worlds End<\/a>&#8216;<\/strong>, which took Stages 4 &amp; 5 at Space Studios Manchester in May before the facility was officially opened to create the new CBBC drama, have added to their presence with &#8216;<strong>Boy Meets Girl&#8217;<\/strong> from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tigeraspect.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Tiger Aspect<\/strong><\/a>, the UK\u2019s first transgender sitcom for <strong>BBC2<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Channel 4<\/strong> has been making use of stage space and support zones at Space Studios Manchester since May, serving as the production base for &#8216;<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/abbottvision.com\/no-offence\/\" target=\"_blank\">No Offence<\/a>&#8216;<\/strong>, the latest drama from Shameless creator Paul Abbott.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ITV<\/strong> complete the mainstream PSB line-up with &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.itv.com\/presscentre\/press-releases\/cast-announced-atmospheric-thriller-safe-house-be-produced-eleventh-hour-films\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Safe House&#8217;,<\/strong><\/a> Michael Crompton\u2019s tale of a married couple who turn their guest house into a safe house produced by <strong>Eleventh Hour Films<\/strong>, as well as Coronation Street, which has stepped away from its base at MediaCityUK to film a secret storyline for transmission early next year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/spacestudiosmanchester.co.uk\/assets\/bbc.itv_.4-logos.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-9384 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/spacestudiosmanchester.co.uk\/assets\/bbc.itv_.4-logos-300x52.jpg\" alt=\"bbc.itv.4-logos\" width=\"300\" height=\"52\" srcset=\"https:\/\/spacestudiosmanchester.co.uk\/assets\/bbc.itv_.4-logos-300x52.jpg 300w, https:\/\/spacestudiosmanchester.co.uk\/assets\/bbc.itv_.4-logos-1024x178.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/spacestudiosmanchester.co.uk\/assets\/bbc.itv_.4-logos-640x111.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>All four productions across the three public service broadcasters are currently making use of the stages, office space, dressing rooms, prop store, workshop and AV facilities at Space Studios Manchester for what are set to be standout dramas for 2015. Not officially open until late May, in less than six months the 360,000 sq. ft. facility in East Manchester is already attracting significant interest in its five circa 10,000 sq. ft. stages and custom built support facilities.<\/p>\n<p>Sue Woodward, OBE, FRSA, Founder of Space Studios Manchester and sister site The Sharp Project, said of the news: <em>\u201cTo barely be open for six months and to have four wonderful dramas from the UK\u2019s most popular and strident commissioning departments working with us on their productions is a fantastic early indicator of the huge potential of this exciting new addition to the UK production landscape.
